Injectable Cosmetic Fillers

Injectable cosmetic fillers such as collagen, Restylane® and Radiesse™ can temporarily restore lip volume, fill in lines and wrinkles, add volume and give your face a smoother more youthful appearance. Anesthesia is not required for the injection of these fillers, and the procedure can be part of a simple office visit.

Collagen (Zyderm®, Zyplast®) injections can fill relatively superficial defects. Zyderm is used to treat shallow scars and fine lines; Zyplast is a heavier filling material that is placed deeper in the dermis. Collagen is an excellent temporary skin filler that yields a natural cosmetic result that should last between 6 and 9 months.

Restylane is an injectable gel (composed of hyaluronic acid) that works from beneath the skin to lift and smooth away lines and revitalize your skin’s appearance. Restylane is used for superficial wrinkles; results can last as long as 1 year.

Radiesse is a cosmetic filler used in the treatment of deep lines and wrinkles around the nose and mouth. Radiesse is injected into the skin through a simple and minimally invasive procedure to restore a youthful appearance by adding volume to your facial features. Results are apparent right away, and these results may last up to a year or more for many patients.

FAQs

What is Restylane®?

Restylane® is an injectable gel that works from beneath the skin to lift and smooth away lines and revitalize your skin’s appearance. Restylane is an innovation based on non-animal hyaluronic acid, manufactured by a unique method in the Q-Med Laboratories in Sweden. Restylane® injections are a non-surgical approach to facial rejuvenation. Anesthesia is not required, and the treatment benefits are readily apparent.

Restylane® can soften the signs of aging by smoothing out wrinkles, and restoring volume to specific areas of the face. Restylane® can plump lips, and soften the lines between your eyebrows (glabellar lines), around your lips (perioral lines) and those that extend from your nose to your mouth (nasolabial folds) when you smile.

With Restylane, you can replenish your natural beauty whenever you feel the need. A touchup can be performed any time you like after the previous treatment.

What is Radiesse?

Radiesse® is a dermal filler that uses advanced, calcium-based microspheres to deliver soft, natural-looking results you can see immediately. It is designed to stimulate your body to produce new collagen, and the benefits of treatment with Radiesse may last up to a year or more.

In the United States, Radiesse is FDA-approved for the correction of moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles, such as nasolabial folds (smile lines).

Where are procedures performed?

Treatments are performed in the office, and typically take less than one hour

Are injections safe?

All products are FDA approved. Reactions are very uncommon, but occasionally someone may experience transient swelling, redness and tenderness at or near a treatment site up to several weeks after treatment.

Do the injections hurt?

When treating wrinkles, pain relief is usually not needed, but can be easily achieved with topical anesthetics and injections. Immediately after the treatment the treated area can be slightly swollen and red. This is a normal result of the injection, and it generally goes away in a day or two.

How long do the benefits last?

Results are individual and depend on many factors, such as the structure of the skin, lifestyle and age, as well as on the degree of perfection demanded by the individual. However, we know that for the majority of the patients treated about 50% to 80% of the beneficial effects of collagen remain for 6 months or more. Clinical studies show that Restylane can offer a high degree of patient satisfaction up to one year after treatment. Benefits from Radiesse injections may last for up to one year or more.

Most people choose to have a touchup done within a year of their original treatment.

What is the cost of treatment?

Treatment price is based on the number of areas treated and the amount of product used.  Dr. Pollard's staff can provide information based on your specific treatment plan.
